A SoundPress.net Feature Article by Rich and Laura Lynch It was Halloween night at Double D's Rock 'n' Night club located at 4 John Street in Morristown, New Jersey. Since the summer of 2003, Double D's and Abztrakt Productions have been hosting the AIMS independent music series. The club has a good sound system, a full riser stage and space for over 500 fans.
![]() Fallen From Grace's Greg Galdieri and Steve Frederick! Early in the evening James Frey and Virginia & Ed from Coventry Road played to kick off the holiday celebration, which included a contest and prizes for the best Halloween costumes as well as drink specials and give-aways throughout the night. The crowd was in a festive mood. Many attractive ladies dressed as Catholic school girls. Scary costumes and creative ideas marked the witching night but the main focus of the event was the music of up and coming indie bands.
![]() Fallen From Grace headlined Halloween 2003 at Double D's! Abztrakt organized a diverse evening of entertainment that also showcased 9 Circles, Fallen From Grace and Stand. 9 Circles is a four man band from Northern New Jersey. Their music features heavy guitars, clever melodies and weighty hooks. All four members come from various musical backgrounds and have been playing since a young age. Their songs are based on life experiences and relationships. 9 Circles is currently in the studio recording its second release entitled From the Outside. The bands states that the new CD will be "catchy as hell, with some killer rifts and vocal blends."
![]() FFG's Greg Galdieri and the grand-prize winning giant pimp! Their set at Double D's featured lot of power and energy. The music was guitar driven and fast paced. Chris Kearns, one of the two guitarists, used creative techniques combined with experiments chords that blended with the band's driving beats. 9 Circles has lots of potential and vigor that should help them to reach a wider audience.
![]() Abztrakt's John Grech (left) and the lucky lady bug! Fallen From Grace is also from northern New Jersey. The band has played local bars, large festivals and has had the opportunity to open for major acts such as the Goo Goo Dolls. Wherever they go they leave a wake of new fans enamored with their poignant lyrics and captivating musicianship. The bandmates come from a rich cross culture of music that includes acoustic, raves, metal and industrial. Today melding those influences with modern rock, hip hop and some techno the trio creates a fresh sound that is upbeat and snappy. Their music is rich, multi-layered featuring terrific harmonies. Fallen From Grace opened with one of two covers that they performed in their headlining set. The rest of their songs were from their stellar self-titled debut release. This band rocks even though their tone is slightly softer and acoustic. Instead of a full drum kit they use percussion instruments like the bongos, which still provides a full sound and sets the pace. Yet, the drums do not overpower so that one can also hear the textured tones of both the acoustic guitar played by lead vocalist Greg Galdieri and the electric played by Steve Frederick. Other sounds and grooves are aptly handled by keyboardist and turntablist, Dave Grech. The band has good interaction with the crowd and was quick to give thanks their sponsors, the other groups and even the people who decorated the venue. Yet, their focus is providing quality music that is exciting fresh and upbeat. That mission was accomplished once again on Halloween night.
![]() Wilma takes third place! As Fallen From Grace dismantled their gear, the costume contest took place. Six contestants were chosen by judges who roamed the room giving out their votes. The noise of the crowd had the final say. One contestant was the city of sin, Las Vegas. She wore a wedding vail, cards, chips, electric lights with a sign stating just married. She was joined by a fallen angel and a gothic couple. But the big winners of the evening were Fred and Wilma Flinstone who received $100.00 cash, a sexy lady bug who received a snow boarding package, and the grand prize winner was a flashy, tall pimp. He won a trip to Cancun and Orlando. Closing the show was Stand. This four man band originally formed in Dublin, Ireland, is currently based out of New York City. Their music is guitar driven, alternative rock featuring two lead vocalists. Stand's style is no frills rock and roll played with passion and precision. The band is winning fans in both the states and Europe. Recently, Stand secured a licensing deal with Budweiser for their 'True Music' Campaign.
![]() 9 Circles features heavy guitars, clever melodies and weighty hooks! The Stand demonstrated that quality music is still coming out of Ireland. They played an energizing set that was tight and edgy. Their songs ranged from solid rockers to slower paced tunes that demonstrated the musical prowess of the band. Stand is impressive and finished the festivities on a high note. The Abztrakt event was an extravaganza of quality music and fun! The audience had the opportunity to hear a variety of talented bands and diverse musical stylings. Be on the look out for future Abztrakt gigs.
