Are You Ready for a "Kweevak Radio" Thanksgiving?
Worldwide Webcast to Air on National Day of Thanks
A SoundPress.net Feature Article by Rich and Laura Lynch

How does the space alien Kweevak celebrate the great American holiday of Thanksgiving? Pretty much the same way as the rest of us humans – surrounded by good friends, great music, good cheer and a turkey dinner, of course!

On Saturday, November 15, 2003, the Kweevak Radio team and special guests Ray Ecke and Ricky Bustamante converged on the studios of Kweevak Radio to pre-record the special Thanksgiving show that will air exclusively on the station on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 27, 2003. The festive, three-hour program will re-air at 8 a.m., 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. EST on the web's fastest-growing Internet radio station.

Please make sure to tune in on Thanksgiving Day to hear some of the strange synchronicity and unplanned, compelling coincides that occurred during the show. For example, minutes after being served some flavored Raspberry Framboise Lambec beer imported from Belgium, Kweevak's Rockin' Rich Lynch took a phone call all the way from Belgium as indie musician Dave Adrian unexpectedly called the webcast to promote his new book and talk about the music industry scene in Europe.

Later in the show, when a song called 'Alien' by the indie artist Edgar was being played, he called in as if on cue to say hello to the worldwide listening audience. Edgar was promoting his "Original Tuesdays" independent music series that takes place at The Fireside in Denville, New Jersey and you can hear his surprise to learn that his song was spinning just as he called the show.

Kweevak Radio had requested that members of the indie music call the show to say hello and "give thanks" to the people who have encouraged and supported them in their musical endeavors in 2003. Also taking part in the show was roots rocker Joe D'Urso, who called in to promote the 2003 WHY (World Hunger Year) Hungerthon and New York's wonderful Elza, who dialed up the show while on her way to a gig in Philadelphia.

"Mr. Chord" – Ray Ecke of the Second Self!

The Kweevak Radio Thanksgiving show would not have been complete without the holiday's famed fowl and there was turkey aplenty. Throughout the show there were crazed wild turkeys in the studio and about halfway through the show the staff and guests took time out to partake in a holiday meal of the frozen food variety.

In studio guests for the Thanksgiving Show were longtime friends of the Kweevak site, Ricky Bustamante and Ray Ecke of the Second Self. Both artists began their segments by spinning some tunes of the artists and songwriters who had a strong influence on their own songwriting and performance styles. Ray and Ricky have been friends and musical collaborators for many years, yet their styles are unique and varied. Ray is a strong songwriter who leans towards more traditional classic rock formats where as Ricky likes experimental techno sounds and utilizing lots of gear.

Ray Ecke of the Second Self performed three songs from his bands's debut CD, Souvenir. Ecke is known for his prolific songwriting and guitar work which has garnered him the nickname of "Mr. Chord" over the years and those skills were on display during the show.

Ricky Bustamante is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who is best known for his songs Boba Fett and Weird New Jersey. Boba Fett was a tribute song to a beloved Star Wars toy and Weird New Jersey is the unofficial theme of the much-lauded local magazine of the same name which explores strange places and paranormal activity in the state of New Jersey. Bustamante brought his "band in a box" and ran through a set of four blistering originals which included a demonstration of guitar looping techniques.

By all accounts the first-annual Kweevak Radio Thanksgiving Show was an out-of-this world success — tune in to judge for yourself on Thanksgiving Day! Listeners will be to treated to an eclectic feast of music and fun.
