Monkeying Around with John Taglieri
Indie Music's Hardest Working Man
A SoundPress.net Feature Article by Rich and Laura Lynch

John Taglieri is the hardest working man in indie music! Want proof?

When John Taglieri and Kweevak.com's Rockin' Rich Lynch got together on January 22, 2004, in the studios of the Kweevak Radio Show for two hours of music and conversation it was the start of the Chinese New Year/Year of the Monkey — and John has been busier than a monkey in the jungle lately!

John Taglieri: Having fun with a Barrel Full of Monkeys!

When he arrived at the studio he told us that he was a bit delirious, having been on almost no sleep for the past twenty-four hours. Taglieri had flown in earlier in the day, at 6 in the morning from two nights of concerts in Michigan. He drove straight to his day job, put in his eight hours, and made his way to the down-town Suffern, New York studio for his two-hour appearance on global Internet radio.

Coming off of his two day stint of solo acoustic gigs with Teddy Richards at Goodnight Gracie's in Royal Oak, Michigan and Siena Heights University in Adrian, Michigan Taglieri reported that he was also scheduled for a gig on the following night at Morristown High School opening for the well-known indie act, Granian.

John has also been busy planning an ambitious solo tour that includes two days of performing in New Orleans for Mardis Gras festivities, highlighted by a live performance on a Mardis Gras parade float.

From New Orleans John sets off on a "Seven States in Seven Days" jaunt through the American South with stops in Flowood, MS; Birmingham, AL; Atlanta, GA; Greenville, SC; Chapel Hill, NC; Alexandria, VA; and, Annapolis, MD. John said he was looking forward to this particular leg of the tour because he was going to be accompanied by his father, the first time these two would hit the road together, making their way back north to New Jersey following their memorable time in New Orleans and on the road.

Taglieri played a powerful three-song acoustic set, which included "How Will I Know", "Leap of Faith" and a brand-new track for the worldwide listeners. Leap of Faith is the title track from the CD that was one of the first discs to receive a CD of the Year award from Kweevak.com. The show also featured several cuts from his more recent Half & Half CD which will be nominated for Kweevak CD of the Year in 2004.

There was also a segment of songs featuring Kweevak.com listed artists who are friends with John Taglieri. Together, Rockin' Rich and Taglieri spent several minutes playing music and offering commentary on tracks by the talented indie acts Neil Rimbaldi, Nicole McKenna, and Fallen From Grace.

The was also lots of feedback for John and song requests through AOL Instant Messenger and two callers — Sue from Georgia and Kathy from Pompton Plains, New Jersey — both won John Taglieri prize packages which included CDs, magnets, a button and an autographed photo!

John Taglieri has received a lot of national recognition with his uncanny ability to get his name out there and he takes a very active role in promoting his career. Numerous feature articles and interviews with him have appeared on the web and in print since the release of his debut solo record back in 1999.

When asked what he attributes his many recent successes and career highlights to John pointed to the "game-planning" sessions he and his manager have conducted over the past few Januarys. Together, they would build a list of seemingly unreachable goals which he says are usually completed by the first half of the year.

John Taglieri played an acoustic set of three-songs for the global audience.

One of those goals was achieved when John got the opportunity to open for his long-time rock idol and musical influence, Rik Emmett of Triumph, at the historic Bottom Line in Greenwich Village in 2002. Some of that show appears on John's latest CD.

Another unique and successful track that John has taken is booking gigs singing the National Anthem before sporting events. John performed the song at many minor-league ballparks over the last few years before turning that experience into a another of his lofty goals accomplished! In 2003, he got to perform the song live before 80,000 NFL football fans when the Giants met the Jets in a pre-season battle in August, 2003 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey before a home-town crowd.

For his next musical project John is joining the ranks of major league musicians by releasing his first full-length DVD scheduled to include a full-band live show recorded at the Luna Stage.

When it came up during the news segment of the show that the Chinese New Year of the Monkey had just begun John guaranteed that he had some sort of monkey in his car! Sure enough, John returned with an unopened can of the classic, Barrell Full of Monkeys toy.

The monkeys broke out and hung around for a little while. A conversation about the upcoming Super Bowl led to a friendly wager between John and Rich on who would ultimately get to keep this particular Barrel Full of Monkeys. Want to know how it turned out?

When John left the station that night you might of thought he was done for the day but you would be wrong. He told us he was off to Manhattan, driving in to hand out fliers and posters to street team his upcoming gig at The Bitter End. This show, on January 27, 2004 in New York City, is a label showcase that John was on the radio to plug. He was asking his fans to come on out and support this particular show because record labels and other industry reps were scheduled to be in attendance.

When it comes to show business, and the indie music industry, John Taglieri just keeps grinding away and pumping out the music!
