Postcards From The Road: Catch Fallen From Grace in MA & FL in February!

In the month of February 2004, Kweevak.com attended two Abztrakt showcases at Double D's Rock Club. The first event featured the following post alternative rockers — Hero Pattern, Milwaukees, 9 Circles and Ready Made Breakup. The line up brought bands with similar styles together for a full night of entertainment. Each group had a strong heavy sound playing their own compositions. Drumming was high powered with large arching strokes. Guitars were fast and furious. The bands blended classic and modern rock into their own unique styles. Loyal fans for each group were in attendance yet some did not stay to check out the other groups, which is strange as the musical styles were comparable.

Ready Made Breakup is a three-man assembly with the guitarist on lead vocals and the bassist on backing vocals. Their set featured hard-hitting leads, dramatic pauses and plenty of energy. At times the songs had tones of heavy metal as well as modern alternative.

Hero Pattern has four members with two guitarists, a bass player and percussionist. Three of the four sing added harmonies to songs that featured fervent beats and flavorful guitars. Their repertoire included hard rocking tunes, melodies and instrumental solos. They encouraged the audience to move closer to the stage in an effort to form a closer connection.

9 Circles has four players. Their sound is full bodied with sound effects and other extras. Their songs have some harmonies and their lead singer can hit high notes. Some wild guitar work was also a highlight of their set.

The Milwaukees are a four-man outfit influenced by classic rock and combining it with melody and high energy to create their own sound. Vocals soar as songs are executed with passion and emotion.

The second concert included Boxelder, Gallovonn and a site favorite Fallen From Grace. Gallovonn is Rob Gallo and Damon Vonn. This team creates innovative music based on east coast hip-hop and jazz and west coast funk and reggae. Their innovative music is heavy on beats, rhythms and melodies blending a variety of styles.

Boxelder entertained with their reggae-rock hybrid!

Boxelder is a five-man band fronted by their charismatic lead singer Bryce Rutkowski waving his long dreads. Their music is a magical blend of rock, reggae and at times edgy alternative. Live, they demonstrate energy, enthusiasm and first-class musicianship. The group also has a good sense of humor. When a female fan came forward to stuff a dollar in Bryce's pants, he joked that he was at Double B's. A few more inspired fans came forward with bucks. Boxelder who are based out of Florida were very well received by the New Jersey crowd who danced to songs that for many was their first time hearing them. Boxelder is tight with heavy rhythms, dueling guitars and witty lyrics. I particular liked a song that may have been called 'Morning Coffee'. It was a java jam with catchy hooks and cool instrumentation. The band is also proficient at innovative jams and incorporating various musical styles into their songs.

Boxelder has formed a touring relationship with Fallen From Grace. Boxelder was on the bill with FFG at Double D's and FFG is heading down to Florida to share the stage with Boxelder. It is a good partnership as each band has great rhythms and exciting original music.

Fallen From Grace melds soulful vocals, catchy guitar chords and hip-hop beats into great sounding pop rock that is fresh and inventive. FFG draws from different genres to create their own signature sound. Greg Galdieri lead vocalist and rhythm/acoustic guitarist for the band reports that they are working on their second CD. Both the new bass player and the keyboardist/DJ are contributing backing vocals giving FFG songs even more textures and tones.

Fallen From Grace's expanded line-up featured a fuller sound and extended jams!

The Friday night gig featured some of the new compositions. The set also included favorites from their debut CD such as 'Reckless', 'Lifetime', 'Lonely at the Top', 'Moments Away' and 'Catch It If You Can'. These live versions are evolving and lengthening with the bass lines giving the songs deeper grooves and adding to the important rhythm section of FFG. Guitars are also a key component of the band's signature sound and Steve Frederick's lead solos are superb. Fallen From Grace usually plays a few covers in their sets, demonstrating that they already have their own unique style that shines brightly through even well known songs.

Fallen from Grace will be playing in Florida February 25th through the 28th, 2004. Three of the four gigs will be with Boxelder. FFG will then be heading up to Boston. If you live in these regions check them out!
