THESE WALKERS ROCK AND STROLL:
Musicians Lend a Hand and Their Feet in Support of PDF and the MS Society!
A SoundPress.net Feature Article by Rich and Laura Lynch

Each year thousands of People Living with Parkinson's Disease (PLWP's) — their families and their friends — assemble in New York's Central Park for a two-mile walk to raise awareness and funds for Parkinson's research.

Bob Benjamin and the Light of Day Team Assembled in Central Park!

For the fourth consecutive year, Bob Benjamin has organized a Light of Day Team to participate in the spring Unity Walk. In the fall, Bobby B. as his friends call him, organizes the Light of Day (LOD) concerts that raise money for the Parkinson's Disease Foundation (PDF).

The Parkinson's Disease Foundation (PDF) is a national non-profit organization committed to funding research, providing education and advocating for Parkinson's. Their goal is to help and provide hope to as many as one million Americans who currently suffer from this debilitating disease.

Saturday, April 16th, 2005 was a spectacular day in Manhattan. The sun was shinning and the park was buzzing with families, pets, joggers, musicians and artists. Participants gathered near the bandshell for check-in before the 1:30 p.m. start of the walk. The registration tables for the Unity Walk were busy distributing information and helping participants find their team-mates.

An impressive turnout, on a beautiful day, in the best city on Earth!

There was an impressive turnout for the Unity Walk with teams wearing similar colors or tees specially made to support a love one. Many in Bob Benjamin's group of well over 50 people were sporting Light of Day concert shirts. Some of the musicians who have participated in past Light of Day shows were on hand to give their additional support. Boccigalupe; Mike Rocket; Maybe Pete; Rob Dye; Dawn Allynne; New York recording legands Jesse Malin and Garland Jeffreys, and probably many others we didn't recognize or see!

The MS Walk is an annual fund-raiser for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. On April 17, 2005 at seven locations throughout northern New Jersey, participants walked to raise funds to find a cure for this chronic disease that affects the central nervous system.

Walking for a cure in Ringwood State Park!

Ringwood State Park was one of the seven to host to this event, which is in its 17th year. The park is a perfect location with mountain views, streams and a pond. In addition to the beautiful scenery, the Ringwood MS Walk included a tattoo table and a clown for the children and for adults, massage therapy from Highlands Health & Fitness ran by Glenn Stoll and his team.

Edgar, an independent and professional singer/songwriter, was also on hand at the Ringwood MS Walk with his acoustic guitar. He cheered the walkers on with his spirited set of covers and originals. Edgar's catch phrase is "good things happen when you least expect it." He brings that positive attitude to the stage and to many of his songs. Edgar also writes serious songs and is currently considering children's music as an additional creative outlet.

Edgar provided the musical motivation for the MS Walk!

Musicians continue to generously give their time and energy to worthy causes. Both PDF and the National MS Society are working hard to find cures for these debilitating illnesses.
