New Eagle Rock Media DVD Captures Classic Rock Band in Rare Form! A Kweevak.com Rock Report by Rich and Laura Lynch Eagle Eye Media, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Eagle Rock Entertainment, has continued its acclaimed Montreux series of DVDs and CDs by finally releasing Yes Live At Montreux 2003 on DVD by England's Prog-Rock heroes, Yes in March of 2007.
![]() Overlooked by the Rock 'n' Roll Hall Of Fame, Yes has put forth a stunning catalog of great music dating back to 1969. Each and every member of this band is looked up to by two generations of musicians as being the supreme exemplar of craft... from guitarist Steve Howe, vocalist Jon Anderson, bassist Chris Squire and keyboardist Rick Wakeman to drummer Alan White. This is the lineup that gathered together in Switzerland on this night, its Montreux debut. It is regarded by the band members themselves as the finest Yes gig ever to be filmed. Fan blogs have been asking for this set since '03 but its release had been held up pending the solving of legal clearances. Until now. As noted, many fans in attendance have claimed this to be one of the best Yes shows ever and the band did deliver a near flawless performance as caught by the Montreux cameras. The five musicians on stage represent what many feel to be the most classic Yes line-up as they are the group who put out the most critically acclaimed releases in the early 1970's. Over the years Yes has reformed and reconfigured in so many countless formations and at times seemed unlikely these five would ever grace the stage together again. But, they did reunite for the 2003 "Full Circle" tour and they were a well oiled machine by the time they reached the Swiss shores for their show at the world famous jazz festival. The band tore through many of there early classics with an energy and enthusiasm that brought new life to their 30-year-pieces of classic progressive rock. A satisfying two hours and 18 minutes in length, the incredible 17-song set, which lists at $14.98, features rare gems as well as well-worn beloved anthems. It could be said that there is not another band in Prog-Rock history who has stayed at the top of its game 38 years after inception like Yes. Truly, they are better now than ever. Anderson's voice has retained that pristine angelic tenor. It is undiminished by time. Howe is still the overlooked genius in any guitar conversation. Squire wrote the book on prog-bass, period. His bottom doesn't only anchor the sound, it defines it. Squire's bass is another lead instrument, and that fact is sensationally brought home in concert. Only Wakeman has had his share of critical due and deservedly so. White has been and is the consummate progressive drummer. Eagle Eye Media has set the industry standard for concert DVDs with this highly-prestigious and critically-acclaimed Montreux series. Previous entries include artists as diverse as Seu Jorge, Van Morrison, Carlos Santana, Alice Cooper, Canned Heat, James Brown, Deep Purple, Eric Clapton, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Suzanne Vega, Chick Corea, Gary Burton, George Benson, Lou Reed and many others.
