Simultaneous 2CD and 2DVD Release A SoundPress.net Feature Article by Rich and Laura Lynch Mariillion was formed in 1979 in England. Their history has been defined by two eras based on lead vocalists. The first was Fish and the second and current singer is Steve Hogarth. Marillion's albums have featured ever changing styles including Neo-Progressive. They pen provocative lyrics in layered arrangements.
![]() In 2009, Marillion released Less Is More an album in which the band acoustically reconstructed songs from their back catalogue. Marillion toured in support of the project. The concert at England's Cadogan Hall on December 7th, 2009 was recorded and filmed and is now available in 2 CD and 2 DVD sets. The first set and disc is based on Less Is More. The music is moody and mellow yet dynamic with all the different instruments that have been added to the mixes including an autoharp, celeste, dulcimer, glockenspiel, a pipe organ and a xylophone. The second set and disc showcase music from Marillion's past revised and reinvented, yet expansive and expressive. Both sets include some chat from Steve about the concept of the concert and general commentary. The production on both the CDs and DVDs are crisp. The DVD has the benefit of visuals capturing the energy of the concert and close ups of the group playing all their unique instruments. In addition, the venue is a lovely, long hall decorated for Christmas. The lighting throughout the show added to the atmosphere and the enthusiasm of the London crowd was apparent. Marillion has a long history of change and Marillion Live from Cadogan Hall (Eagle Rock Entertainment) is a prime example as the band brings new chord arrangements and accents to their past. Yet Marillion's expertise and expressive style is still a constant. Marillion, composed of lead singer Steve Hogarth, guitarist Steve Rothery, keyboardist Mark Kelly, bassist Pete Trewavas and drummer Ian Mosley, has enjoyed a rich, musical history, with over 15 studio albums and over 20 UK-Top 40 hits. Throughout their 25-year career, the band has consistently dodged categorization by crafting distinct, evocative music, which has solidified an extremely loyal fanbase. Live From Cadogan Hall stands as a testament of the incredible aural magic Marillion continues to create.
