K-FLOOR RATS LIVE ON NO EVIL STAR: K-Floor is a Philadelphia, PA based rock/blues band. Rats LIVE on no Evil Star is a live CD performance compiled from two appearances. The opening tune "Break of Day" sets the tone for the entire CD. One can imagine oneself in a crowded bar as the opening slide guitar riff cuts through the cigarette-smoke filled air. Soon, you're caught up in a rock/blues beat that crescendos into an all-out romp session. Another cut, "Poison" demonstrates the type of bass playing missing from much of today's music. Liev "walks" his bass when he has to, or he settles back just keeping time while guitarist Nicholas unleashes another bombastic solo. Noticeably present, especially on another favorite, "Brick" was the mixture of Justin's Hammond organ which blends so well with the guitar and bass. It creates the kind of atmosphere that makes one want to pop open a six-pack in the church parking lot before Sunday services...in a word IT ROCKS ! K-Floor has received numerous acknowledgments and achievements and has played with such acts as George Thorogood, Steve Miller and Johnny Winter. If you would enjoy a modern rock/blues band with a new twist instead of listening to the old dinosaur acts K-Floor is definitely for you.

'Tuesday Sirens' is intriguing with its seductive lyrics layered over subtle guitars and an interesting use of abrupt stops. 'ParisSanFrancisco' is an image filled song about separation. She incorporates all of these genres into her own compositions and reinterpretations of well-known classis. Dames sings with passion and precision and her group Fringe Benefits is energized and tight. Tigers is her second solo release. Lisa plays every instrument on her surreal songs that feature pioneering production. DeBenedictis' music has a dreamy quality as she weaves poetic lyrics in soundscapes of piano and electronic textures and tones. Her music is moody, mysterious and intriguing. Lisa writes lyrics that are often about suffering, yet there is some humor and light to her songs. DeBenedictis' music is a diverse blend of ambient, pop and more. Arrangements are often sparse but work well in the context of allowing serious lyrics and subtle instrumentation to float to the top of the mix. 'Mother Earth' and 'Brave' are environmental anthems. Lisa Winn has a wide range of vocal styles and inflections that brings diversity to the collection as a whole. 'See Right Through Me' and 'Gone Too Far' are edgy and captivating. 'Mother Earth' has a great hook and solid instrumentation. Overall, Lisa Winn's first solo CD is a varied mix of songs that showcase great vocals.
LISA WINN OUT FROM UNDER: Out From Under is the sophomore release from singer, songwriter and guitarist Lisa Winn. Lisa has worked with many artists in the role of supporting vocalist but is once again at the forefront on this eleven-track CD. Lisa's second release is stark and more serious than her debut CD Mother Earth which was a spirited blend of rock and pop. This CD is more solemn with soft acoustic guitar work and subtle instrumentation. Winn's arrangements are simple and straightforward but her lyrics and vocals are rich and complex. Lisa is a powerful singer who expresses herself with passion and poise. The theme of the CD is relationships or more specifically a broken bond. As in her first release she spins natural environmental imagery into her stories thus adding to the depth and symbolism of her songs. A mournful somewhat melancholy vibe is captured on moving tracks such as 'Cover My Eyes' and 'That Train'. The live bonus cover of Cyndi Lauper's 'Heading West' closes this deep collection of songs. Lisa is maturing as an artist and Out From Under is a fine example of her growth.

Little Feat is well respected and known for their magical melding of genres and experimental instrumentation. They play over one hundred shows a year and have developed a strong chemistry and energy that this CD captures. Kickin' It At The Barn was record at the band's own studio where they were able to relax and let the music simmer. The idea behind the latest release was to start songs with just an acoustic guitar and a piano then let the group add ingredients. Little Feat has strived for a raw record with few overdubs and samplings while allowing evolution and extended jams. 'Night on the Town' is the opening track that combines an up-tempo pace with a blue grass groove and animated instrumentation. 'Corazones y Sombras' clocking in a little over eight minutes is a brilliant blend of southwest flavorings, creative harmonies and spicy instrumentation. LIVE SONGS FROM BLACK MOUNTAIN: After making music together for more than half of their lives, touring their way around the world and selling more than 20 million records, the four members of Live - singer, Ed Kowalczyk; guitarist, Chad Taylor; bassist, Patrick Dahlheimer and drummer, Chad Gracey - say Songs from Black Mountain marks a new beginning for the band. Before recording the new album, the members of Live - all of whom are still only in their early 30s - put together a music and video retrospective spanning the quartet's six studio albums. Since forming in middle school in York, Pennsylvania in 1988, the band has become an international success with two albums reaching #1 on Billboard's Top 200 album chart (Throwing Copper and Secret Samadhi); five #1 singles, nine Top 10 singles and number #1 albums in Australia, Holland, South Africa, Canada, Belgium and New Zealand. "It was such a cathartic experience putting together our greatest hits because it reminded us of where we came from and gave us a clear idea of what we've grown into as a band," says the band's singer and chief songwriter, Ed Kowalczyk. "Now that we've signed with our new label, Epic, it really feels like we've closed a chapter and with this new record are starting over." The band came together with producer Jim Wirt (Incubus, Hoobastank) at a studio in Santa Barbara in May 2005 for what became a whirlwind session. In just three weeks, Kowalczyk says, the multi-platinum band recorded all 12 of the album's songs in a frenetic burst of creativity that surprised everyone. "We haven't recorded that quickly since Throwing Copper," he says. "We were like the Chicago Bulls when they won six championships. When we got in the studio, we all slipped into the zone. We were working hard, but we were completely at ease, open to each other and in the flow. Everyone was awestruck by not only how fast we were recording, but also by how good it sounded."

'Down The Hill' is the snappy opening track with a tambourine keeping tempo as two guitars and a subtle bass builds on the beat. Lorenzo is supported by a female backing vocalist as he smoothly sings about sneaking around at night. 'Pretty Shitty' has layered acoustic and electric guitars with a very classic rock sound. Bertocchini expels his witty lyrics to a funny hook line. Despite the fact that he is singing about being down, the mood is countered by the up-tempo groove and a short, spirited guitar jam. 'House of Models' reminded me of a Dylan like rap flowing over animated instrumentation and particularly snappy piano parts. 'Romeo And Juliet Revisited' utilizes alternate tempos from soft and sweet to mid range as rich instrumentation ebbed and flowed on harmonizing vocals. 'Ode To Jack' starts off with some drunken banter before multiple guitars, bass and drums kick in. The song has a loose bar room feel with Lorenzo singing a duet with Jason Reed.
