QUEEN ESTHER – TALKIN' FISHBOWL BLUES: Queen Esther was raised in Atlanta, Georgia. She moved to Austin, Texas to perform with other musicians and pursue her own solo projects. She relocated to New York City bringing all these life and local experiences to her music. Queen Esther is a classically trained vocalist who can sing in four octaves. Talkin' Fishbowl Blues is her debut release on her own label. This multi-range vocalist has surrounded herself with seasoned musicians and the end result is diverse and dynamic. Her sound has been described as "Black Americana" but it draws from a array of styles including the blues, country, gospel, soul and rock. This twelve track CD features all originals except for the closing song, which is a soulful cover of Tammy Wynette's 'Stand by Your Man'. The CD starts off strong with 'Promise Me'. Acoustic and electric guitars meld with funky bass lines that are spiked with plenty of percussion. Topping off this great instrumental groove is Queen Esther singing with passion and power. 'Shine' is the second song and showcases Queen Esther's high to low range layered over a deep, dramatic beat and shining guitar riffs. 'Leave Me Alone' has an attitude with its commanding instrumentation and potent vocals. Hidden in the midst of the track is an almost country twang jam suffused in the blues. Talkin' Fishbowl Blues is a royal pageant by the gifted Queen Esther and her court of talented musicians!

RACECAR – RACECAR: Racecar is the creation of David Alyassin. David is a singer and songwriter who also plays the drums and guitar. He is supported by a capable band. Racecar's sound is a blend of alternative, classic rock and modern pop with a bit of corporate grunge and punk thrown in for good measure. Alyassin pens spiritual, thoughtful lyrics that are sometimes sensual. His songs are filed with visual imagery. David has an earthy but clear vocal style. The self-titled, fourteen-track CD is diverse blending modern and vintage sounds and styles. 'All The Signs' is a spirited acoustic composition with concise vocals and a catchy groove. 'Jigsaw Puzzle' has lively instrumentation combined with a Dylan like rap of observations. Racecar is an innovative band crafting eclectic songs from the past and present!

RANDI RUSSO – SOLAR BIPOLAR: After playing music in the Midwest for a few years, Randi Russo returned to New York to form a new band and play the East Village's Antifolk scene. Randi's songs draw from the traditions of punk, art-rock and garage bands. Russo sites numerous influences such as the Sonic Youth, Patti Smith, Lou Reed, Led Zeppelin and David Bowie. Randi blends these varied influences into her own enchanting hypnotic music with driving beats. In addition to being a singer/songwriter, Russo plays guitar. Since she is a southpaw her instrument is inverted, which adds unusual sounds and edgy tones to her latest release Solar Bipolar. Russo is supported by the talents of Spencer Chakedis, Matthew Carlson and Lenny Molotov. Chakedis and Randi produced this collection and all the CD artwork is by Russo. Randi's compositions are journeys that explore various musical paths and are delivered with intensity. She writes songs that are deep, dark and emotional. The CD opens with 'Dead Citizen,' which has steady solid percussion, funky haunting guitar rifts and raw vocals. This set the tone for the rest of this well produced collection. 'Possession' grabs its listeners with its solemn start that merges into a gritty knife to the metal cutting edge sound. Solar Bipolar shines with potential.

RANDY MOORE & THE FABULOUS DELTONES – RANDY MOORE & THE FABULOUS DELTONES: This self-titled CD is a gem! From the crisp clean opening chords to the spiritually charged closer, this eleven-track collection has heart and soul. Randy's rich slightly twangy vocals tells the stories of faith, hope and perseverance. The Fabulous Deltons are first class musicians who play with peep and passion. Their music is rock done Nashville style. Randy is a singer/songwriter and guitarist who has shared the stage with Hank Williams Jr., Springsteen, Amy Grant and others. The Fabulous Deltones have appeared on the WSM Grand Ole Opry and performed with The Oak Ridge Boys and other respected musicians. Quality, enthusiasm and professionalism are found on every song on this CD. 'Rope Me With Fire' has free flowing guitar chords, a concise beat and subtle steel accents. 'A Mother's Prayer' is a moving poem about a new mother who has to give up a baby for adoption. It is a heartfelt narrative with soft delicate instrumentation and rich vocal inflections. 'Tears I Cried' is a song about hard times but has a hopeful tone. Soulful pedal steel combines with passionate vocals and rich instrumentation. Randy Moore and the Fabulous Deltones blend rock and country into a fabulous musical montage!

RAPID AUDIO RESPONSE – RAPID AUDIO RESPONSE: We recently received a five track demo release from Rapid Audio Response (RAR) a four piece band based out of New York City. RAR are in the process of recording a CD and have been playing out live to rave reviews. Their music is a cornucopia of rock, power pop, alternative and melodic structures. Kwaku Aning the lead vocalist sings with power and soul. He writes honest personal lyrics that are contemplative yet edgy. Drew Murray provides commanding guitar leads and the potent beats and steady rhythms are provided by Gabe Pressman on bass and Joe Sampson on drums. Each of the five songs are aggressive, energetic and played with passion. High voltage instrumentation and intense vocals are the pulse of RAR. RAR has set off a chain reaction that fuses power rock with shades of alternative to create a hot collection of songs.

RAY CHARLES – GENIUS & FRIENDS: Ray Charles has been an influential and innovative musician since the 1940's. Ray's was the first to meld gospel with R&B, producing numerous hit records and singles. Mr. Charles was always a soulful performer during both the highs and lows of his career. Genius & Friends demonstrates that Ray, even posthumously is still a vital force. In 1997 and 1998, Mr. Charles recorded duets with contemporary artists ranging from the edgy Mary J. Blige to country crooner Willie Nelson. In late 2003, James Austin at Rhino received a call from Ray stating that he wanted the duets released. It took some time to locate the masters. Sadly, Ray who passed away in June of 2004 was unable to finalize the project but Phil Ramon the producer has done an impressive job. All fourteen songs are magical. Charles is in great voice as he explores a diversity of genres. Yet, the arrangements have Ray's signature style with lots of jazz, R&B and soulful overtones. The CD features power packed vocal performances from relatively newcomer Alicia Keys belting out 'America The Beautiful' to the legendary Diana Ross singing 'Big Bad Love'. The duets with male singers Chris Isaak and George Michael are also impressive and inventive. My particular favorites were 'All I Want To Do' featuring the soulful Angie Stone, 'Imagine' with Ruben Studdard and The Harlem Gospel Singers and 'I Will Be There' with the commanding Idina Menzel. The title Genius & Friends says it all!

RAY CHARLES – RAY ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK: Ray Charles was born in 1930 and died in 2004. Ray was blind since age seven but he rose above the adverse circumstances of darkness, poverty and segregation to become a master of soul and a music legend. Mr. Charles has won countless awards including thirteen Grammys. Ray has had Top 10 hits in country, jazz, pop, R&B and rock. In the 1960's, he was active in the fight for racial justice – finically assisting Martin Luther King. Ray was known and respected as a perfectionist who demanded total commitment from the bands he led. Charles was considered a musical pioneer, blending gospel-powered vocals with the blues, jazz and other genres. Ray himself was a passionate singer and keyboard player. The soundtrack from Ray is a great introduction to Charles' early work. The seventeen tracks chosen for the CD were remastered from the originals, truly capturing the man and his musical spirit. The CD is a mix of studio and live performances and the production is crisp and clean. Ray is stellar from start to finish and an education in music history! Many of the songs are familiar, as they have been covered by various artists and other tracks have clearly inspired musicians from the 60's and beyond. Ray Charles is a legend and this soundtrack demonstrates why!

RAY PASCOE JR. – CAN YOU HEAR ME: Ray Pascoe Jr. started playing the trumpet in the fourth grade. Later, he learned the piano, baritone, cello and guitar. Today, Ray is a multi-instrumentalist who also sings and writes. Ray's music is a unique blend of genres. Pascoe uses different elements from various instruments to craft a sound that is difficult to classify. The guitar is played in traditional folk fashion, whereas the synthesizer brings in a new age element. 'Can You Hear Me' is a one-song sample in advance of a forthcoming full length CD. The track features soft pianos, light instrumentation combined with reflective lyrics and vocals. Ray, who owns and operates his own software development company, is passionate about composing and crafting songs. Pascoe hopes to find a performer and/or publisher to bring his music to a wider audience but in the meantime he will continue to creatively express himself through his songs.

RAY WINCH – LIVE AT THE SACRED BEAN!: Live At The Sacred Bean! is a 21-track collection of Ray's originals and a number of covers. His music is a combination of rock, new country, folk and 70's pop. Ray's lyrics are well-crafted and generate beautiful visual images and reflections. Winch's songs are upbeat, positive and hopeful even when dealing with sad subjects. As a singer/songwriter, Ray's music is introspective but he sincerely sings about topics that many of us can relate too such as the soul, relationships and love. Ray states that he has loved music from an early age and has been heavily influenced by Joni Mitchell. He pays tribute to her on this CD by performing 'Big Yellow Taxi.' Solid musicians back Winch on this live effort and his songs from the studio album Vision and Reflections transfer well to the stage. There are many prime examples of Ray's beautiful lyrics and delightful delivery throughout the acoustic and full-band tracks on this disc. 'Sun is Shining' is a great visual song about the coming of spring and new love. 'Another Day' is also a seasonal song with strong imagery backed by solid instrumentation. 'Summertime' is the sad ballad of losing love with a lively hook line. 'I Won't Be Back This Time' has a catchy soft guitar rift to accompany solid lyrics and musicianship. Overall, this is a crisp, clean live CD and a visit to the Sacred Bean is highly recommended to fans of modern folk rock!

RAZETOASHES – RAZETOASHES: RazeToAshes is a quartet based out of Boston, Massachusetts looking to expand their music reach beyond the northeast. RazeToAshes is a hard rocking band with a sharp, metal edge. They site a wide range of influences including jazz, pop and hard rock, yet their sound is uniquely their own. The liner notes of RazeToAshes' four-track EP explains that the CD tells the story of "Japan's black, despotic Age of Abe". The songs all have a bleak undercurrent along with caustic lyrics, cutting rhythms and sizzling guitars. Campbell Hoffman the lead singer has a deep voice adding to the drama of the music. "The Seven Seals", the opening track, sets the forceful tone for the rest of the EP. I particularly liked the sharp leads and hard driving beat of the song along with some power packed guitar parts. The other three songs build on the energy of the first ending with the ominous "EndGame".

REBEL MEETS REBEL – REBEL MEETS REBEL: Organic combustion. When the unlikely swerve then merge, it's more often a train wreck than a flash of genius - and if you're tempted to write off the marriage of post-Pantera Damageplan with biker-country outlaw as pole-dancing on decibels, you'd be packing conventional - if errant - wisdom. The "Cowboys from Hell," Pantera's guitarist Dimebag Darrell, drummer Vinnie Paul and bassist Rex Brown's, teamed up with iconic redneck iconoclast David Allan Coe - best known to Pantera audiences for the "Jack Daniels If You Please" warm-up music - for a seamless sonic thrust that packs a blindsided-rusty-nail-two-by-four kind of wallop. Captured in stray moments over the course of four years, the Rebel Meets Rebel project tears into musical pockets with the power-teeth of a chain saw - shredding, pumping, thumping, wheeling and at times even finding a way to whiplash melodic cyclones to the Paul's always propulsive backbeats. Plowing the traditional road warrior themes - good times, hot babes, cold beer, long nights - Rebel Meets Rebel is a tour de force of sheer carnage, designed to be about elevating the notion of "there's two kinds of music: good and bad" to an even higher truism "that which rocks and that which sucks." In a world of safe, safer, safest, this is all about loud, louder, loudest, corners on two wheels and having the time of your life.

REGAN LANE – DON'T MESS WITH THE PRETTY: Regan Lane is a composer, producer, singer and multi-instrumentalist. Regan is an award winning artist whose music has been featured on a number of TV programs. Lane sites a wide range of influences from classic rockers John Lennon to contemporary bands such as Collective Soul. His sound is an eclectic blend of alternative pop, British and rock. Regan handles the majority of the instruments on his ten-track solo debut, but the CD does feature other talented players too. Lane's songs are catchy with a range of moods and tempos. His lyrics are a look at the "wonder and absurdity of the world we live in today." Lane has a crisp, expressive voice that works well in the various genres that he incorporates into his music. The CD is strong from the energetic opening track to the electronically influenced closer. 'Time Flies' and 'I Like The Picture' were my particular favorites with their creative textures and tones. Regan Lane is an innovative and intelligent artist and his debut is sure to please!

RELIC RUST – RELIC CUTS: Relic Rust is five core composers, players and producers. Relic Rust's music is a blend of classic pop and contemporary rock. The main theme of their debut CD is boy meets and/or loses girl told in eight different stories. The songs range from ballads to rockers that are catchy and creative. Singers Mike McCormick and Lee Kroupis have velvety vocals and sing with passion. The rest of the band adds skills and zeal to poetic, well written songs. 'Bad Timing', the opening track, melds subtle rhythms with searing guitar leads and soaring vocals. It is followed by the lively 'I've Been Told' that mixes old and modern pop/rock styles into one animated arrangement. 'Walk In The Rain' is sad and serious enhanced by soft, acoustic guitars and stringed instruments. Relic Rust combines classic and modern sounds into songs that are inventive and original and Relic Cuts is a strong, freshman release!

RENEE ASTERIA – RENEE ASTERIA: Renee Asteria is a guitarist, producer, singer and songwriter. Renee founded her own label to back "projects that integrate the arts with education, economic empowerment and raising social and environmental awareness." In addition to her solo music, Renee is a member of We'A'Dem a roots reggae band with psychedelic and world over tones. Asteria is also working on her masters in public health. This multi-talented artist writes insightful songs about the different people and places that she has experienced. Asteria's music blends a multiple of genres and the nine songs on her self-titled debut explore a range of moods and stylings. Asteria effectively fuses reflective folk-rock with reggae and Latin rhythms that are catchy and unique. Renee has a voice that is both strong and sweet. 'Curly Black Hair' starts with a serious tone and lightens instrumentally although the crux of the song is "each day is a test." It is unclear if Renee is singing the song for herself or for a socially oppressed person. 'Sweet Ben' is a love song but a sad one as "Ben is just a memory." The tempo is upbeat with snappy guitar leads as Renee's vocals soar. Renee Asteria is music that is both magical and meaningful!• Recommended Tracks: (1,3) [USA/CA 2005 - web] (2005 Review by Laura Turner Lynch for Kweevak.com)

RENNICK – TO THE SKIES: To The Skies was written, performed and produced by solo artist Rennick. Rennick plays eight different instruments on his debut CD, although none is dominant. He has a pensive vocal style that on occasion is reminiscent of Morrissey, which is layered over modern electronic arrangements. Rennick's melodies are haunting with dark lyrics and a style that is an unusual blend of goth, pop and techno. This ten-track CD is creative with its layered textures and tones. Each song has its distinctive, often serious mood. Rennick is a one-man band crafting contemporary music that is original. He is already working on a second record, which will allow Rennick to develop even more as an artist.

RHONDA CLARK – YOU TOUCH ME: The multi-talented Rhonda Clark is a songwriter, singer and arranger. Rhonda is a powerful, passionate vocalist with a wide range and the uncanny ability to hold notes. Producer Wali Umrani and other artistic instrumentalists support Clark on this twelve-track collection. Rhonda's music is an exquisite blend of gospel, jazz, R&B, reggae and soul. She has a knack for harmonies and melodies. Rhonda explores a variety of moods from smooth ballads to smoky raps with high voltage vocals. The first two songs are prime examples of the different stylings that the CD features. Diverse yet poignant best describes Rhonda's music with each track having something unique to offer. RICHARD GSOTTSCHNEIDER – THE BANJO LADY: Richard Gsottschneider is a singer, songwriter and guitar player. Richard has a diverse background of life and working experiences, which weave their way into his songs. Richard likes classic rockers such as Bruce Springsteen as well as Cajun and folk music. His ten-track debut is a gentle combination of country and folk. Richards executes his insightful lyrics with a deep, countrified vocal style. This self-produced CD was a labor of love over a two-year period, as each song was recorded as the inspiration and mood struck. Richard has a group of talented friends to assist with additional guitars, bass, drums, keyboards, slide, mandolin and fiddle. The Banjo Lady opens with 'Margaritas Can't Be Bad'. It flows on a subdued country groove and shrewd storytelling before it closes with a loose sing-along of the hook line. 'Dancing With Nancy' has spirited instrumentation enhanced by both an accordion and a mandolin as Richards sings his reflections and rhymes about life with Nancy. 'Somewhere in Baltimore' travels on slow, soft instrumentation combined with visual lyrics and subtle harmonizing vocals. Richard writes intelligent songs that progress like a good book and his musical arrangements set just the right tone for each story to unfold.

RICHARD MCGRAW – HER SACRED STATUS MY MILITNAT NEEDS: Her Sacred Status My Militant Needs is the latest release from New York state singer/songwriter Richard McGraw. Richard also plays acoustic guitar on this self produced CD. Richard has been influenced by many artists including Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan. This sixteen-track collection is divided into four sections addressing issues in a thematic order. Richard writes honest lyrics that are placed in stark musical arrangements. Many of the songs are simply McGraw singing softly while playing the acoustic guitar. Others have subtle instrumentation to create a restrained beat and subtle tones. Richard writes intelligent lyrics that are introspective but speaks honestly of the human condition. This CD has a dark reflective mood that is executed with sincerity, clarity and depth. 'Sidetrack' has a delicate flow pouring into lyrics that are pensive and candid. 'Newburgh' is a powerful analysis of a town and disenchantment but ends with the hopeful statement "It's a fine night to be." It has a faint raw energy that captures the imagination. This song also includes soft subtle bass lines provided by Rick McCurdy. Her Sacred Status My Militant Needs is a unique collection of sincere well-written songs executed in a simplified but distinctive musical format.

RIK PALIERI – HOBOS & HEROS: Rik's ancestors from Poland and Italy were storytellers. Palieri carries on the tradition through his music and lyrics. He has played at numerous festivals and is a long time supporter of the Clearwater Festival, an east coast environmental forum and music event. Palieri has traveled worldwide perfecting his craft and learning new instruments and traditions along the way. These varied influences find their way into a sixteen track collection entitled Hobos & Heros. All the songs are adapted and arranged by Rik using an assortment of instruments and moods. He states that the CD is "a celebration to the wandering spirit in all of us." His visual lyrics about travel and life embrace this vision. Rik's music is folk rock with a whole lot more. Rik is a multi-instrumentalist who plays banjo, 6 and 12 string guitars, the Ozark mouth bow, native flutes and the Polish bagpipe. Diversity is a key component of this CD, which includes yodeling and wind instruments. In fact one of my favorite tracks is the instrumental 'Edek's Rooster' featuring the rich full sound of a traditional flute. It is followed by the story of his mother-in-law who wanted to plant a tree for her eightieth birthday. It is a poetic piece about sowing seeds and eternity. Sparse instrumentation adds texture to the truthful tale being told. Hobos & Heros is a musical journey of American folk and traditional world tones!

Debbie Dawson the lead vocalist in the band has an incredible range and sings with passion and a purpose. Geoghegan also sings. Kris Manvell handles drums, percussion, keyboards and production. The CD is strong utilizing a diversity of chords and melodies. 'The Way Things Are' was inspired by their recent trip to the United States and incorporates the stylings of bluegrass. The song has a light airy feel but the lyrics are serious and reflective. It is followed by 'The Gallows' a haunting track about a political couple on the eve of his execution. The song is told as a narrative with Gerry singing the prisoner's tale and Debbie handling the role of the faithful lover. The instrumentation is subtle adding more force to this empowering tale. Rise is Gerry Geoghegan who plays guitars, sax, keys, bodrhan and sings, Elaine McCombe on bass, Kris Manvell on drums, percussion and production, Steve Howie on keys and rhythm guitar and lastly the angelic Debbie Dawson on lead vocals. Rise blends old world traditional music and story telling with modern rock instrumentation. Rise raises Celtic folk music to a new level by merging it with a contemporary rock/pop sound. They write meaningful lyrics about nature and relationships. Their music has both a magical mystical feel that flow majestically from one song to the next. All fourteen tracks are expertly produced. The CD opens with 'Buffalo Song' a powerful tale that is reminiscent of Native American tones complete with a subtle steady beat, expert guitar work and haunting vocals. 'Think About You' is one of many songs that showcases Debbie's sweet melodic voice and wide vocal range. 'Time and Tide' ebbs and flows with harmonizing moving vocals, nice guitar work and other subtle sights and sounds. Uncertain Wonders is aptly named as this CD contains an eclectic mix of well-crafted songs. Rise is inventive and gently polishes traditional music to shine in a new and modern context.

ROBERT KRAMER – I AM THIS: I Am This is the latest release from singer/songwriter Robert Kramer. Robert is a veteran musician who plays guitar, keys and the synthesizer. Kramer has released or played on over twenty records and has written music for independent films. In addition to his instrumental skills he is also an engineer and producer. Robert chose to have Calypso Brightman oversee this particular project. Kramer is joined by four other talented players to rounded out the sound on I Am This. Robert's influences include rock, folk, new age, contemporary and classical. This CD is best described as adult pop melded with jazz. This eight-track collection is a soulful look at inner growth. Robert states that he wanted this record to have more feeling, therefore he used less takes and overdubs. Thus, his sound is straightforward, honest and perhaps a little rough around the edges. Robert's vocals are expressive as his poetic soundscapes unfold. Soft subtle instrumentation enhances well-constructed lyrics. 'Letting It Go' is a textured tune with poignant piano and intimate expressive vocals. The songs flows on soft smooth instrumentation into a catchy hook line and back out into the story. 'Whats Going On' showcases strong funky guitars, keys and classic bluesy vocals. Robert Kramer is a creative composer and I Am This is a soulful truthful collection of songs that are fresh and spontaneous!

ROBERT WINDPONY – MOONRIDER: Robert Windpony sent us his latest wind flute project called Moonrider and he blew us away. Windpony is actually an Arizona-based professional golfer who became interested in flutes after encountering a random musician in a hospital room who was playing for the patients there. Windpony is not only a great player who performs his spirit songs in traditional Native American style - he is an entrepreneur with an attractive and enticing web site dedicated to the Native American wind instruments. I had trouble keeping my credit card stashed away because I immediately became interested in collecting the beautiful and musical works of art. When Robert records or performs in concert, he plays each song differently each time. Robert feels that his playing is guided by spirit and that his flute playing gives voice to his spirit songs. Robert divides his time between the deserts, high plateaus and mountains of the southwest and his journeys are the foundation for the gentle tones that abundant in his soothing music.

She sings with passion and conviction. Brock joins forces with Randy Bachman and John Capek who co-wrote some of the songs found on her latest CD. Brock surrounds herself with talented musicians who complete the full hard driving rock sound established on Hidden Power. ROBIN HORLOCK BAND – ROBIN HORLOCK BAND EP : Robin Horlock is a guitarist, singer and songwriter who has been heralded as the next John Mayer. Robin is supported by a talented band adding to Horlock's compelling, cross-over music. This five-track EP was expertly produced by Marlon Young who has worked with the Dave Matthews Band, Kid Rock and others. The songs are guitar driven in arrangements that are distinctive and dynamic. Robin is a passionate, precise vocalist with a sweeping range. Each song has something special to offer but I thought the edgy 'Conspiracy Of He' was the tops with its soaring guitar licks and striking rhythm. The Robin Horlock Band is building a strong following in Michigan and beyond appearing at various festivals and conferences including CMJ. RHB's latest EP is terrific and a testimony to their talent!

ROD KINNY – THE ROD KINNY EP: Rod Kinny started singing in his elementary school's choir. Later, Rod learned the bass and guitar, playing in a number of bands through high school and beyond. Today, Kinny is focusing on solo projects, which include songwriting and producing. Rod has a glowing, tenor voice that is light and airy like a warm, spring day. His music is acoustic based with classic rock under tones and romantic imagery. Kinny pens lyrics about modern life infused with optimism. Rod's six-track EP is melodic and merry. I enjoyed each song, especially the cheery "One Step Closer" with its subtle, serious commentary. "Mood Glow-full version" starts at a slow pace but builds momentum to the tender hook line. The song blends these two structures in its dreamy songscape. Longtime musician Rod Kinny has potential hits on his latest EP!

ROD PICOTT – STRAY DOGS: Stray Dogs is the sophomore release from singer, songwriter and guitarist Rod Picott. Rod grew up in a mill town in the state of Maine. He was raised on classic rockers such as The Beatles and Springsteen but also had an interest in Ray Charles and other types of music. In his teens, Picott played in a number of bands and started composing songs with longtime friend Slaid Cleaves who makes a guest appearance on this CD. Rod moved to Nashville and soon built a reputation as a young remarkable up and coming composer. Rod writes powerful poetic lyrics and his arrangements are compelling and well produced. Picott is known for his somewhat smoky vocals. He is supported by first-class musicians on this twelve-track collection. Rod's style is a captivating mix of rock and country and his songs are gripping. The title track opens the CD with solid rock riffs, catchy hooks and rich raspy vocals. It is followed by 'Baby Blue', which brilliantly blends a classic rock sound with modern storytelling. A subtle beat and fine guitar work complete the tale. 'Find Your Way Home' has a reflective tone touched with rich instrumentation and more honest earthy vocals. ROKY ERICKSON – I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN HERE BEFORE: Roky Erickson may not be a household name but Roky has influenced countless musicians and genres. I Have Always Been Here Before is an anthology of more than three decades of Erickson's masterful music. Roky has an extensive catalogue and has led and worked in a variety of bands. Many consider Erickson and his group The Thirteenth Floor Elevators the founders of psychedelic music. They had a hit in 1966 with 'You're Gonna Miss Me'(song 2 on disk 1). They toured their hometown of Austin, Texas and later clubs in San Francisco where young musicians such as Jerry Garcia and others heard and incorporated the psychedelic sound into their own compositions. In 1969, Roky was busted for pot and in an effort to avoid jail pleaded insanity. He spent years in Rusk State Hospital where he collaborated with other patients. During that time Roky wrote over 100 songs and released a book of poetry entitled 'Openers'. After his release, he worked on an assortment of projects and moved into a more hard driving style. Roky penned songs filled with horror contrasted by stirring love songs. Erickson's commanding, moody guitar work and vehement vocal style combined with dark imagery would inspired the punk movement. Roky continued to write chilling songs throughout the 70's and 80's growing his cult following. This 45-song anthology truly captures the diversity, force and talent of Erickson. The two-disk CD set is comprehensive, a lesson in music history from early retro tunings to Roky's edgy lyrical songs of later years. Even if you are unfamiliar with Erickson's work this CD will sound like an old friend as his influences are apparent in so many older and more contemporary records. Shout Factory has done a stellar job in compiling a diverse collection of haunting, innovative music from the multifaceted Roky Erickson!

RON ARMSTRONG – JUST AROUND THE BEND: Ron Armstrong is true vintage material. His band in the sixties, The Misfits, opened for The Rolling Stones in San Diego on their first U.S. tour and the keyboard player would later turn down a chance to join the act that would become Moby Grape. A lot of water and life has gone under the bridge but Armstrong never gave up the music bug releasing his solo debut Just Around The Bend in 2005. The 10-track CD is a rocking mix of covers and originals and the team knocks it out with "Oh Suzie" sounding like Orbsion era Wilburys. Armstrong honors the Glimmer Twins with a bluesy and authentic version of "Little Red Rooster". Ron's rendition of Chuck Berry's "You Can't Catch Me" rolls along nicely and reveals Armstrong as one worthy of keeping up with. Hopefully the next bend in the road will come up a little faster with a new Armstrong release just around the corner!

RONDO STERLING – RONDO STERLING: In 2002, four artists from various musical backgrounds formed a band, which they called Rondo Sterling. Their self-titled, four track EP has been released in advance of a full length CD that is in the works. Rondo Sterling's sound is hard to categorize. Although they use the label "alt-pop", their music also incorporates jazz, a little bit of hard core and rock. Rondo Sterling pens clever songs that are a shade dark in light, pop arrangements. Their four songs also have an experimental edge with the use of harmonies, varied rhythms and different musical styles. 'Much Fun' and 'Green Contacts' start off slowly but build momentum with tempo changes and sassy sax parts. 'Arms Around' is a more forceful tune blending pop textures with a punk attitude. Rondo Sterling is a unique quartet crafting music that is imaginative and original!

RONNIE I. – RONDEROSA RANCHO MOTEL: Ronderosa Rancho Motel is a solo release from singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer Ron Iacopucci. Ronnie has played in bands for the past three decades and has recently been asked to write music for motion pictures. His musical style is pure American rock and roll. Ronnie I has been compared to classic US rockers John Mellancamp, Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen. This fifteen-track collection flies on soaring guitar leads, catchy hooks, heavy beats and great storytelling. Ronnie's vocals vary with the moods of his music. He can sing smooth as silk or add a bit of grit and gravel if the song calls for it. Other talented players who bring expertise and energy to each track join Iacopucci on Ronderosa Rancho Motel. 'Long Distance Runner' has a driving beat combined with fine musical accents from the organ, the congas and sax to give the track a rich full sound that rocks. 'Wild West' is heavy on dueling instrumentation in conjunction with Ronnie I on acoustic and "jangle" guitars. The pace is snappy and the original song as well as the closing remix is catchy. 'Good Possibilities' has plenty of innuendo with its captivating groove, smoking guitar leads and harmonizing vocals. Ronnie I and friends are first-class rockers who bring zip and zeal to the Ronderosa Rancho Motel!

Her compositions surpass boundaries of standard jazz forms taking the tradition of improvisation to even higher levels. Tunisia features a mix of originals and re-interpretations of classics from jazz greats Dizzy Gillespie and Duke Ellington.
